Toward Real-World Science Mission Planning

چکیده
In this paper we describe the use of our planning and scheduling framework, HSTS, to support science mission planning. This work is part of an overall project to enable a small team of scientists to control the operations of a spacecraft. The present process is essentially carried out by human operators. Users (scientists and operators) rely on a non-codified understanding of the different spacecraft subsystems and of their operating constraints. They use a variety of software tools to support their decision making process. A successful use of AI planning and scheduling technology must consider the types of decision making that need to be supported/automated, the nature of the domain constraints and the capabilities needed to address them successfully, and the nature of external software systems with which the core planning/scheduling engine needs to interact.

Dynamic mission planning for multiple mobile robots
Planning for multiple mobile robots in dynamic environments involves determining the optimal path each robot should follow to accomplish the goals of the mission, given the current knowledge available about the world. As knowledge increases or improves, the planning system should dynamically reassign robots to goals in order to continually minimize the time to complete the mission. In this pape...
متن کاملPersistent AUV Operations Using a Robust Reactive Mission and Path Planning (RRMPP) Architecture
Providing a higher level of decision autonomy is a true challenge in development of today AUVs and promotes a single vehicle to accomplish multiple tasks in a single mission as well as accompanying prompt changes of a turbulent and highly uncertain environment, which has not been completely attained yet. The proceeding approach builds on recent researches toward constructing a comprehensive str...
متن کاملMission Planning for a Robot Factory Fleet
Planning is becoming increasingly prevalent as a tool for high-level reasoning in real-world robotics systems. This paper discusses the implementation of a high-level ‘mission planner’ that utilises AI planning techniques to find initial plans for a fleet of robots acting in a manufacturing factory. The paper introduces the system architecture, and then focuses on the ROS-based mission planning...
متن کاملGalileo Mission Planning for Low Gain Antenna Based Operations
The Galileo mission operations concept is undergoing substantial redesign, necessitated by the deployment failure of the High Gain Antenna, while the spacecraft is on its way to Jupiter. The new design applies state-of-the-art technology and processes to increase the telemetry rate available through the Low Gain Antenna and to increase the information density of the telemetry. This paper descri...
